The Jozef Frank Merciless Marathon

The Jozef Frank Merciless Marathon (50 km) event is not a road race, but rather a cross country endurance and social event.

There are no registration fees for this year's event. Finishers will have the option of ordering a Finisher's Shirt at cost.

Start for the JF Merciless is 6:30 AM at the Haxton Center. Please arrive to start location 30 minutes prior to start time.

Course Description

The Merciless will start at the Haxton Center and wind along the Clearwater into Waterways, up into Beacon Hill and Abasand and then across into Thickwood. Everyone will run along the trail to the Golf Course Road, follow Golf Course Road to the Birchwood Trails and then take the Birchwood Trails into Timberlea. Runners will then work down onto the highway and back to the Haxton Center.

This route is revised from last year. Maps will be posted here shortly.

The course is marked well in places and not so well in others.  Familiarize yourself with the course. It is best to run in groups, carry a course description and map, and to have a least one person in each group carry a cell phone. Include your cell phone number on the registration form and leave with the start crew.

The course will have minimal marshalling and water stations. The trails are likely wet, icy, and muddy - perfect Merciless Marathon conditions. Runners are requested to not use MP3 players as there is a need to focus on the trails and to be able to hear other runners if they call for help. Runners who use a music player will not receive credit for finishing.

Please be prepared. Carry water. Try to ignore the ravens. Pray frequently. Keep smiling.

Please cross all roads at intersections and follow the rules of the road. Watch traffic at all times. You are a pedestrian and vulnerable.
